ATMs In Tanzania

Tanzania ATM Travel Guide

ATMs in Tanzania are usually not such a problem for the traveler, however there can be issues with the computer links, or the machines can run out of money. In addition, cash points aren’t found outside major cities e.g. Arusha, Moshi, Dar & Zanzibar.

If there are no ATMs close by, the ATMs in Tanzania are not working with your card, or you want to avoid paying ATM fees / make larger withdrawals, check back here for our guide below. It explains how you can send yourself money online and pick it up at an authorized local cash pick up point.

It is a very similar process to buying something online with your debit card and is probably the quickest way to send money to yourself in Tanzania.

Here are two useful links to find the nearest ATMs in Tanzania : Visa / MasterCard

Tanzania ATM Fees & General Information

Most ATMs in Tanzania charge fees. These usually range from $3 – $4, with the standalone machines in shops and tourist areas sometimes charging more whilst also taking a surprisingly high commission with the currency exchange rate they offer.
You will also probably get charged a fee by your own bank.

Having a Wise (formerly TransferWise) MasterCard can help reduce your home bank fees and gives a great exchange rate on purchases. With their borderless account / card you can hold your money in more than 40 currencies and use the debit card to get your cash out with low conversion fees and zero transaction fees. Click here for more info.

Withdrawal limits depend on the bank, and even vary as the cash point runs low.
They are usually between 200,000 and 400,000 Shillings, meaning fees from multiple withdrawals can really add up.
It’s also worth noting that in small villages, cash machines may have limited funds available.
With the method of sending yourself money to Tanzania outlined below, you can send much more than ATM withdrawal limits and avoid having to make multiple withdrawals and the associated fees.

Major hotels take debit/credit cards, but cheaper accommodations, tourist sites / safaris and restaurants tend to only take cash.

You’ll find Visa cards are more widely accepted than MasterCards, with both attracting a 5% service charge for purchases.

Unfortunately, ATM fraud in Tanzania is becoming more common with the introduction of more private/standalone cash points. Check out our Travel Money Tips for what to look out for and more general information covering pre-trip planning, fees, scams, and general safety.

ATMs In Morocco

ATMs In Morocco

Morocco ATM Travel Guide

ATMs in Morocco don’t usually pose many challenges as they can be found in most Moroccan cities.
However, in some areas they can be elusive, non existent, empty or may just reject your card. Cash machines may also be out of service until they are restocked during busy periods, so best to not wait until you’re desperate for currency. This can be particularly pertinent when the ATMs in Morocco run out of cash over the weekends as they are only restocked on Mondays.

If there are no ATMs close by or the ATMs in Morocco are not working with your card, check back here for our guide about how to send yourself money online and pick it up at an authorized local cash pick up point.

It is a very similar process to buying something on the internet with your debit card and is probably the quickest way to send yourself money online to Morocco.

What’s more, it’s convenient, safe and cheaper than paying high ATM withdrawal fees allowing you to transfer more than the maximum ATM limit.

Morocco ATM Fees & General Information

Morocco has fairly high withdrawal charges. These vary according to your bank and are calculated as a percentage, often with a fixed basic amount applied and a withdrawal may incur a fee of around 20-23 MAD.
You will also probably get charged a fee by your own bank. The currency conversion rate is not always the best and the money lost in the exchange can really add up. Having a Wise (formerly TransferWise) MasterCard can help reduce your home bank fees and gives a great exchange rate on purchases.

Withdrawal limits depend on the bank, but tend to be around 2000 Dirham with a maximum of 4000 Dirham per day.  This means multiple transactions are sometimes needed and fees can add up.  You may also have to choose different ATMs as some banks might not allow multiple transactions with the same card in case of fraud.

Major hotels take debit/credit cards, but cheaper accommodations, tourist sites and restaurants tend to only take cash.

Almost all ATMs in Morocco accept Visa, MasterCard, Electron, Cirrus, Maestro, and InterBank cards.
The most reliable banks are BMCE (Banque Marocaine du Commerce Extérieur), Société Générale, Banque Populaire, BMCI and Attijariwafa Bank.

Check out our Travel Money Tips for more general information covering pre-trip planning, fees, scams, skimmers and general safety.

Honduras ATM Travel Guide

ATMs in Honduras don’t usually pose any challenges, however there are a few exceptions where we’ve heard of problems as there can be issues with the computer links, or the machines can run out of money. Examples where this may happen frequently are Roatán and Zambrano.

If there are no ATMs close by, the ATMs in Honduras are not working with your card, or you want to avoid paying ATM fees / make larger withdrawals, check back here for our guide below. It explains how you can send yourself money online and pick it up at an authorized local cash pick up point.

It is a very similar process to buying something online with your debit card and is probably the quickest way to send money to yourself in Honduras.

Here are two useful links to find the nearest ATMs in Honduras : Visa / MasterCard

Honduras ATM Fees & General Information

Most ATMs in Honduras charge fees. These are usually around 115 HNL, with the standalone machines in shops and tourist areas charging more and also taking a surprisingly high commission with the currency exchange rate they offer. We’ve heard of some cards not being charged a withdrawal fee at Banco Occidente, so try here first if possible.

Withdrawal limits depend on the bank.
They are usually between 4,000 and 5,000 Lempira, meaning fees from multiple withdrawals can quickly add up.
It’s also worth noting that in small villages, cash machines may have limited funds available.
With the method of sending yourself money to Honduras outlined below, you can send much more than ATM withdrawal limits and avoid having to make multiple withdrawals and the associated fees. If you are worried about your card details being stolen whilst using an ATM, this also helps.

Major hotels take debit/credit cards, but cheaper accommodations, tourist sites and restaurants tend to only take cash. It’s best to have small denominations as change can be a problem in smaller businesses.

You’ll find Visa and MasterCard are equally accepted by ATMs in Honduras.

Unfortunately, ATM fraud in Honduras is becoming more common as it is a worldwide problem. The introduction of more private/standalone cash points make it easier for fraudsters to work, so we always recommend using a cash point attached to a bank where possible. Check out our Travel Money Tips for what to look out for and more general information covering pre-trip planning, fees, scams, and general safety.
